My story of a cross country bike trip
My dream started waaay back when I was a teenager. Some kids dream of the NBA, the All-stars, Carnegie Hall. I dreamed of being on my bike. I was too young to drive so my bike was my ticket, my freedom. I was and am thrilled at what I can power. How far can I go? I’m climbing up THAT mountain?! I was fourteen when I did a tour around the state of Wisconsin and I must have gotten the bug then. I wanted to go bigger from there. A Cannonball, like the movie, “Cannonball Run” staring Burt Reynolds and Farrah Fawcett. She was so glamorous!
Fast forward through life and years where I was mostly broke, through college, med school and training, three kids and a move back to Wisconsin and then… cancer, chemo, radiation, many surgeries. That was ten years ago and it’s time to make this cannonball happen.
I’m celebrating being alive, the beauty of the world, this country and my community. I do need your help to get through this chapter, as in life. I am riding with 21 others on a Trek Travel ride cross country. We start in Astoria Oregon on August 22 and arrive in Portland, Maine October 7th. That’s a whole lot of time to think, reflect and wonder.
I invite you to join me, virtually. You can follow me on this site, you can participate in my playlists on Spotify and you can be my support through this pilgrimage.
You can choose a day or more, a STATE!, to connect with me and help me create an intention for the day. Post questions, encouragement, add songs to my playlists, give me questions to ask the other riders.
