Helene arrives in Bradford, PA

What can I say about today? Rain, dark, hills and more hills. Pennsylvania has crazy hills, some look like ski jumps. And the rain made it dodgey. My only direction from Honza is to ‘ride safe’ and I had that advice ringing in my ears as I sailed down not- the- greatest pavement, riding my brakes on the wet road. Yikes.

The hills, 5,450 ft of them. Pennsylvania was hard for this flatlander today and I was almost overtaken by an Amish horse and buggy on a long, steep uphill. I could hear the clip, clop approaching from behind and I was relieved to pass the church just in time. It being Sunday there were many buggy’s out heading to church. Some were covered, some were open and one was open with two umbrellas for protection. Smart.

We were waaay out in PA along the Allegheny River and National Forrest so no cell reception, no music available so I chose to reflect on a number of things. Like why do I get so grumpy when I’m uncomfortable? I can get lit up when cold and wet. My rational brain realizes it is temporary, I won’t die or melt and hurricane Helene, which brought said rain, did FAR worse to many more. What I got goin on is limited but brought up stuff. My trauma-informed brain feels that something is happening that isn’t great, maybe uncomfortable and doesn’t know if it’ll end or if anyone is listening or believing me what this experience is. So that’s what I got yesterday on the hours in wet.

101 to go today to rest day and Corning!
